L.J. Smith ‘Strange Fate’ – WHEN?
The Night World series by L.J. Smith was my first real introduction into supernatural fiction, and is still one of my favourites today. Not only is Smith a fantastic writer, but the world she creates and the battles that are fought are utterly spellbinding. Like most, I read Witchlight, the ninth in the series and arguably the best, and then wondered when the final part of the story would come.
For those who don’t know, the Night World books are building up to an apocalyptic battle between good and evil, humans and supernatural. For this battle, four “Wild Powers” are being sought. The first, Jez, is found in Huntress. The second, Delos, is found in Black Dawn, and Witchlight finds Iliana – leaving only one left to find before the big battle. Sadly, it has been many years since Witchlight was published, and the concluding part in this fantastic series, named Strange Fate, has failed to materialise.
I’ve been keeping track of the promised release date of Strange Fate for the past seven years. So many different dates have come and go with no release, I was beginning to wonder if we’d ever see the final book. Now, however, on her official website, LJ Smith has announced Strange Fate will final hit bookshelves in summer 2009. And I, for one, sincerely hope this date is kept to…
Is Strange Fate the most heavily anticipated supernatural book of the Millennium? For me, most definitely. You can put your name down for the book at the Amazon page here.

Fingers crossed after all it took eighteen years for her to write another book for The Vampire Diairies. And there’s Captal’s Tower by Melanie Rawn that never came out and it’s nearly twenty years.

What I’m starting to be upset about is that she keeps cranking out her vampire diaries books and short stories etc etc but still we dont know when this final book is cominng out (ten or more years later). Youd think, with so many people waiting for so long she’d give the vampire diaries a break and actually finish this giant final book she’s trying to write. Some of us would like an ending.

If you’re into this kind of fiction, you should definitely check out this awesome book I just read, “Ghost Radio” by Leopoldo Gout. It’s got a lot of the same great things working in it, give it a shot – ghostradio.com

hey!
I love the night world series too. You could say I’m kinda obsessed – sometimes I have to remind myself that none of it is real LOL.
I’ve emailed LJ Smith a few times – she seems really sweet. As of her last email, she informed me that Strange Fate will be coming out and that she’s still working on it so yay!
She told me a little bit about one of the characters, Mal Harman, who is a vampire/witch and one of Sarah Strange’s soulmates. The other soulmate is Kierlan Drache, a shapeshifter and the fourth Wild Power.
All I know is that it’s worth the wait and I am so utterly excited to read this final installment. Honestly, I hope that she continues writing more and more Night World tales with all of the characters that we have come to love. I’m currently rereading the original 9 books in the series and it’s just as exciting as the first time – now how many books can you say that about? =)
Wishing you all the best.
xoxo

It feels good to know that someone else has been waiting for Strange Fate to hit the shelves as long as i have. I feel in love with the Night World Series as a Sophomore in High School and am now a collage gad. and a mother. Hopefully our patience will be rewarded soon.
